Three Days Down

Well, I will be leaving three days from today. I have all my clothes set aside, but still don't have my non-clothes items packed yet. I still need to get a box to keep my camera in.
Anyways. Tonight I am posting my orientation schedule. It outlines what I will be doing from the evening I arrive in Tanzania, up until the first week of September. Of course, I will be updating during that time, but this just gives an idea of what is ahead.


Thursday, July 20: Students arrive Kilimanjaro airport, 8:30pm. Barbara Temple-Thurston and Terry Uhlenhake meet bus

Friday, July 21: Lecture on Tanzania by Steve Ndosi
Lake walk and lunch
Introduction to Kiswahili (greetings)

Saturday, July 22: Lecture on Tanzanian culture, racism, and white supremacy
Coffee shamba (farm)
Lunch at Tengeru and visit to New Tengeru market
Follow up Kiswahili lesson

Sunday, July 23: Church service, lunch with pastors and parishioners
Afternoon: visit parishioner's hopmes

Monday, July 24: Morning: Nkoaranga hospital, Help in Nkoaranga orphanage
Afternoon: Nkoanrua Secondary school, lunch, service project

Tuesday, July 25 Trip to Ngorongoro Crater
Visit Snake Park

Wednesday, July 26 Visit Maasai family
Work and socialize with Maasai community

Thursday, July 27 Pack vehicle for shamba stay
Maroroni Village, work at farm

Friday, July 28 Service project at Maroroni Village primary school

Saturday, July 29 Return from shamba; evaluations with Steven Ndosi
(Nightly de-briefs will be held throughout the orientation in Arusha)

Sunday, July 30 Depart for Dar (8-9 hours on a bus)
